| 23 Aurora Energy: Waipori Line Upgrade REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT The Waipori line upgrade project was focused on replacing a 10.8 km stretch of 33, 11 and 6.6 kV lines and older wooden poles on what is known as the B line between Berwick and Outram. NES Central Limitedwas created in 2007 to meet growing demand for its services in the Central Otago region as well as extending its services to cover Dunedin, Mosgiel and surrounding districts. NES Central is approved to work on the Aurora and PowerNet networks and part of its core services include electrical design and installation of power reticulation to new subdivisions which often involves upgrading existing service supplies. The company’s highly quali ied sta are able to undertake work on live 11,000 volt lines without interrupting the network supply, or impacting other customers. General Manager Greg Millane says the past 18 months has been especially busy due to the booming property market. As a non-corporate, NES is an agile business without multiple layers of authority that can quickly respond to customers’ needs with a personal touch. “That’s an important area of focus, making sure that we’ve got good communication between us and the clients to ensure they are aware of what stage their project is at and when they can expect to have power available. “Our customers tell us that we are easy to deal with. We have a lot of repeat business.” NES Central has a key business relationship with Aurora energy which supplies electricity to 91,000 homes, farms and businesses. Busy times in Central Otago NES is part of Aurora’s customer initiated work (CIW) team, consequently there is a very close collaboration between the two companies on the joint projects they work on. NES meets regularly with the Aurora CIW team to discuss the various projects, to ensure they are progressing smoothly and to achieve the best outcome for the end client. The company employs 10 full-time sta in Central and also collaborates closely with its sibling company NES Ltd Invercargill. This relationship means there is a combined work force of 34 skilled sta which provides considerable capacity for larger projects. The growth experienced by NES Central necessitated the construction of a new 330qsm o ice and workshop complex which was completed three months ago on a new site in Venning Crescent, Cromwell. This provides four times more space than the previous building, with the addition of a workshop and yard area, plus o ice and apartment spaces which are leased out. “We are really excited, there’s a really good vibe within the team and we can see the company’s moving ahead and see the growth internally and externally.” Due to the continual growth NES are always on the lookout for talented sta to join its team and currently have vacancies for a quali ied Line Mechanic and an Estimator/designer. 0800 188 897 reception@4nes.co.nz www.nescentral.co.nz 20 Venning Cr, Cromwell PO Box 113, Cromwell 9342 Specialists in designing and building: ∙ Underground power for subdivisions ∙ Overhead power lines ∙ 400V & 11kV installations ∙ Power supply solutions ∙ Cable locating
