Clyne & Bennie CONTRACTING I f there is a proven formula for effective industry training then award winning com- pany Clyne & Bennie must know the recipe. Having produced a 2019 finalist for the prestigious James Douglas Medallion, the company has now trained another high flier - Oliver (Ollie) Tabak, who recently won a Plumbing World Scholarship at the 2021 New Zealand Plumbing Awards. Canterbury owned and operated for more than 65 years, Clyne & Bennie is a true leader in trades training with a long standing commit- ment to apprenticeship development. Managing Director Martin de Gouw was himself named 2015 New Zealand Training Leader of the Year. He recognises that appren- tices are the lifeblood of the industry. “Our apprentices train across all three trade sectors – plumbing, gas and drainage. It means you’re training people to be good all-round tradespeople and giving them a pathway into industry. “We know that ours is an ageing workforce so training is vital for keeping our numbers up in future.” Ollie joined Clyne & Bennie in 2019 as a Masterlink plumbing, gasfitting and drainlay- ing apprentice and has since gained invaluable experience across a variety of services. “He’s been doing contract work for us at a new retirement village in Nelson and has been here working in Christchurch in our mainte- nance department. “We also found time for him in our drainage department so he could train for that part of his apprenticeship. We’ve had very good feedback on his work and are proud that his diligence has been recognised.” Operating from branches in Christchurch, Rangiora and Nelson, Clyne & Bennie has a tried, tested and trusted record of providing safe services in plumbing, gas, electrical and drainlaying to residential and commercial customers. At this time of year it is important to keep up with routine checks and repairs to avoid bigger issues down the line. Martin says it can be surprisingly rainy in spring so it’s a good idea to make sure gutters and stormwater drains are clear and outside supply tanks are not overflowing. If help is needed, then give Clyne & Bennie a call to discuss available maintenance scheduling options. Now is also a good time to be thinking about how to make best use of spring rain. “We can help by installing rainwater harvest- ing systems to capture that water. Kim Newth “This is a really good option if you have space on a rural property in North Canterbury or in Tasman/Nelson where it can get pretty dry over summer.” Clyne & Bennie’s fully licenced and qualified team can take care of all service require- ments, including electrical, for commercial and residential new builds, alterations and fit outs. (Good quality fittings and accessories are also available through Clyne & Bennie’s website – www.clyne-bennie.co.nz - with great options for bathroom, kitchen, laundry and more). “We recently completed all the plumbing services for a massive commercial laundry that provides laundry services for the Canter- bury District Health Board. “ That was an early engagement project so we worked with the design consultants from the first day.” Clyne & Bennie has an impressive depth of experience in Canterbury and continues to build on that track record today, through focussing on early engagement, safety, value and quality.
