His company is now building for the the Trident Homes Southland franchise, eliminat- ing the need to employ an outside building contractor. “I just wanted to change things up a bit and still keep my own company going as well,” Hamish says. The synergy of owning both businesses creates full control over the systems and processes throughout the sales, design and build process. Hamish saw significant advantages buying into a 100% New Zealand-owned franchise which is part of an established, well-recog- nised and growing brand which provides good systems and support to its franchisees while creating efficiencies and cost savings for clients. “One of the biggest things is probably the speed we can do concept plans and pricing for clients. “People have normally got a fairly good idea of actually what they want so we can build up a concept plan reasonably quickly for them.” After launching the franchise, Hamish and Keri were surprised about the level of inquiry following the Covid lockdown. In addition to low interest rates and a buoyant real estate economy, Invercargill’s large-scale inner city development is providing a boost, Hamish says. “It’s probably the busiest its ever been. “Residential housing is really busy, peo- ple are getting good prices for their existing houses so they are looking at upgrading, or first home buyers are coming in and buying sections and building relatively quickly with us because of the systems and processes we have.” Fixed price contracts can be provided, not only as an assurance for clients, but is some- thing also required by lenders.
