But what set the company apart was it offered a wide range of services and the team size, business development manager Braden Hopkins said. “And this gives us the ability to handle projects from start to finish, simplifying the entire process for both builders and residential clients.” There were more than 40 team members on the tools, which meant they could continue the work within given timeframes with minimal downtime. “We really pride ourselves in our communication skills, having implemented our operations hub, which is a dedicated team that takes care of all communications during a project, keeping clients informed, and making sure everything runs as smooth as possible.” South Canterbury was a growing region, making it an ideal hub for businesses, especially in trade services, Braden said. “The unique blend of strategic location, quality of life, and diverse economic opportunities has created a dynamic atmosphere for various industries to thrive. “More and more people are now looking at the region as a desirable place to live.” He said projects like the Scott Base Redevelopment are an example of how South Canterbury was punching above its weight, handling large-scale projects usually awarded to major centres, and proving it was a hidden gem with huge potential. He said a challenge for trade services at the moment was finding skilled labour for specialist positions. “This hurdle isn’t unique to us; many trades and businesses face similar issues. “(And) we’ve definitely noticed over the years how economic downturns or fluctuations can affect the demand for trade services.” However, this made the district more agile and adaptable to market changes. “Making sure that when times get tough, we come out the other side stronger.” South Canterbury had a lot of potential and was already on its way to becoming a place where businesses could thrive, where people could enjoy a high quality of life, and where innovation and entrepreneurship were celebrated. But he said in order to reach its potential, the region needed more support and collaboration in areas like education, entrepreneurship, and creativity. “By investing in education, we can develop the skills and talents of our young people and prepare them for the future. By empowering entrepreneurs, we can stimulate more innovation and economic activity in the region. “By fostering creativity, we can showcase the region’s unique culture and identity, and make it a more attractive and vibrant place to live.” Supporting the community was at the heart of the company’s core values, and it was involved with a number of different charities and local groups in the region, Braden said. “We believe in helping out because it’s our way of giving back to the place that we all live in. “And it’s not just about writing a cheque, it’s about making a real difference, no matter how big or small. “When we all pitch in, it makes our community stronger and more connected. We’re all about making a positive difference in South Canterbury, and in doing so hopefully inspire others to do the same.” Todd Mudie Group was started 22 years ago in South Canterbury. Back then, it was a small crew delivering top-quality plastering services around the region. Today the company has grown into a strong team of over 50 skilled professionals. “Today, we’re more than just a business; we’re a part of South Canterbury’s thriving community, dedicated to exceptional communication, quality and giving back wherever possible,” Braden said.
