CA Architecture ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Designing a substantial five-bedroom home to be built on a site in Christchurch’s suburb of Burnside for an Auckland-based client has been a highly rewarding experience for the team at CA Architecture, says the architectural design company’s Managing Director Casey Curtis. ‘We really loved working with the client. He was very proactive and knew exactly what he wanted, communicating with us very effectively and efficiently. “From concept design, through to building consent approval the process took six months and that included the Christmas break. That’s really unheard of for an architectural process and I believe was a result of client’s ability to make quick decisions to keep the project moving. He also allowed us plenty of design scope, while sticking to his budget.” The 670sqm wedge shaped section in a well-established cul-de-sac was occupied by an existing two storey house that had suffered earthquake damage. The client had made the decision to demolish that house and replace it with a new two-storey home that was designed and positioned specifically for the site and sun, to maximise efficiency and indoor/outdoor living. The client had contacted a number of local architectural firms for their initial proposals, but had been impressed with CA Architecture’s responsiveness and proactiveness, ultimately resulting in the design project being awarded to them. “We’re all about being as client friendly as possible and focused on what we believe is in the client’s best interests, adding value where ever we can to make life easy for the client and give them confidence in what we’re doing. The client had some concerns about the site in general and my email back included a lot of additional information following the quick research that I had undertaken.” CA Architecture’s design embraces a home with 201sqm ground foot print, with a further 106sqm in the upper level, which is accessed by an engineered cantilevered staircase from a double height entry space. A ground floor master bedroom includes a very large walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. From the open plan kitchen, dining and living room a 6.7 metre stacker slider door leads to the outdoor living space. A feature fireplace and chimney, separate media room and separate office add to the ground floor home comforts. • All residential, light commercial drainage • Septic tank systems • Alterations • Excavations • Free quotes P: 027 437 2468 E: office@dynamicdrainage.co.nz W: www.dynamicdrainage.co.nz PO Box 86024, RollestonWest, Rolleston 7658 PROUDTO SUPPORT CA ARCHITECTURE & BOWNESS BUILT LTD 03 349 9149 7 Avenger Crescent, Wigram office@solidbearing.co.nz From excavation to completion, various types of foundation and floor slab options are available, we’ll help you with the best solution for your build. The void space over the staircase, the upper-level hallway and the second master bedroom are complemented with a cathedral ceiling, adding to the home’s grandeur. “Through our flair for design, we’re all about designing cost-effective homes in terms of efficiency and the use of space and functionality to meet the client’s needs, and the essence of the brief and budget. This client had a particular budget which we had to remain faithful to. We always ensure we keep the project cost top of mind.” Following a client driven tender process after consent had been approved, local builder Bowness Built was awarded the contract to build the home, which will be completed early 2024. “We have an ongoing relationship with Bowness Built, and have worked with them on many projects where we are typically engaged through them at the very outset of a design project. On this occasion we continue in a support role as required.” “We’re all about being as client friendly as possible and focused on what we believe is in the client’s best interests...”
