It’s full steam ahead at the Boulevard Village in Rolleston for GE Construction, as the builder works to complete the developing village’s final homes for awaiting clients. Boulevard Village was a game-changer for Rolleston when it first opened in 2018, bringing the growing town its first village to provide the full continuum of care from independent living to hospital and dementia care, for residents 55 years and over. Established by Karen and Dean Harris, who have been in the aged care industry for more than 30 years, the couple built a great team around them of people with specific interest in and knowledge of the industry. Grant England, founder of GE Construction, has more than 25 years’ experience in the building industry and specialises in architectural residential and commercial building. With his reputation as a trusted quality builder, his dedication to perfection, and his interest as a shareholder in Boulevard Village, ongoing quality is assured as the build process progresses. “I can keep the standards up and the pricing down,” Grant says. “I’m looking for value for money for our residents from subcontractors and suppliers as well as keeping the quality right up there.” Since 2018, 55 villas have been built with a range of configurations and architectural designs. The village looks more like a residential subdivision with homes that have individual character which residents can be proud to show off to their famiies and friends. Grant says as the market changes and different materials and technologies become available, Boulevard Village has adapted its designs to suit. “With some of the materials being a bit scarce and the price increases we’ve had over the last few years, we have changed a few things. We’ve got a big focus on maintenance of the villas for the years to come and we’ve moved away from cedar features to powder-coated aluminium features for less maintenance and more durability.” GE Construction has about 30 more villas to build at Boulevard Retirement Village and then work on the 8500sqm single level care facility, community lodge, and apartments will begin. The lodge will be the social hub of the village with a range of facilities and services, and will include serviced apartments and care suites. “We are looking forward to starting on the lodge, it is going to be a huge facility for Rolleston,” Grant says.
