RenoMasters BUILDING Dunedin’s RenoMasters is thrilled to have won a silver award at the 2024 Registered Masters Builders’ Southern House of the Year competition for their ‘Share Bliss’ project in North East Valley. RenoMasters founder and managing director Andrew Elliott says the awards event in Queenstown was a very special night for the team. “We took our head builder, Chris Johnson, with us,” says Andrew. “Chris managed the project, so this award is really about celebrating his excellent work. It is good recognition for him – we’re all very proud. I also want to acknowledge our marketing coordinator, Nat Wijngaarden, for organising and submitting our entry.” Launched in 2019, RenoMasters is a proven specialist in the mid-range residential renovations market, and is also equipped for new home builds. “This award-winning property is the first new home we have entered in the House of the Year competition. We are increasingly moving towards higher-end renovations as well, so this award provides good opportunities for us to promote our business and boost our profile with Master Builders.” A well-executed rental property, purpose-built to meet modern market needs, this new home is jointly owned by Andrew and his wife Andrea in conjunction with their office manager and her husband. Fittingly, they have dubbed their ownership entity ‘Reno Four Rent’. “We’re excited that Lynette and her husband are sharing in this award-winning success too!” Architectural designer Sarah Teasdale, of Eco Workshop, worked closely with the builder to hone the final design on site. Privacy and space requirements are superbly well catered for here. The 187sqm home has four spacious bedrooms, each with tiled ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating. Sliders in each room open to a sunny deck, which also provides outdoor flow for the living space and kitchen. The two-tone kitchen delivers on style and practicality with a breakfast bar and stainless steel splashback and countertop, plus multiple drawers and cupboards. There is also storage aplenty in the white-on-white laundry. Central ducted heating, double glazing with thermally broken aluminum joinery and above code insulation ensures year-round warmth and comfort. Rooftop solar panels generate renewable energy to help power the home. “We think installing solar panels is the right thing to do and reduces the home’s running costs. We work closely with James and Laura at Dunedin Solar, who play a big part in our vision to reduce environmental impact.” An existing dwelling was demolished to make way for this award-winning home, but Andrew estimates that around 80% of the demolition material was saved and recycled. For example, an old tin ceiling was carefully taken down and sold to a café for reuse. As the property is located in a flood zone with a one-in-100-year flood risk, the new home was built 900mm above ground level to avoid potential flooding. “The added advantage is the property has a much better view and is higher than anywhere else in the street.” The layout ensures each tenant has their own space and the property is also well-connected to the community, handy to local shops and a café with easy-to-access public transport links. While this is an ideal rental property, it also has potential to evolve into a family home in future years. “It would be perfect for families with teenagers, or those needing space for older parents.” Andrew says the award-winning project is sparking plenty of interest and looks set to inspire a new generation of warm, modern homes in the area.
