| 33 Christchurch-based Inkwise Print Partners recently clinched the prestigious Training Company of the Year award at the Pride in Print Awards, showcasing its commitment to nurturing the next generation of print professionals. "We believe that it is our responsibility to train the next generation of operators," explains company co-owner Steve Gallop. "Apprenticeships are usually o ered to team members who we believe have the potential to succeed." This focus on training is not just about illing positions; it's about investing in the future of a niche yet vital industry. "We consider this to be an investment in the future of our business," says Steve. "It's important to the industry as a whole that we keep introducing new talent." Steve says Inkwise provides support internally through its experienced and quali ied operators and management Creative & innovative print solutions team, ensuring a holistic learning experience for apprentices. This comprehensive training strategy has not only earned them industry accolades but also positioned them as leaders in print innovation. "While people say print is struggling, we are irm believers it's not as the print industry continues to evolve and adapt to changing market demands, and we want to bring the younger generation through," says Steve. One of the key advantages of print that Inkwise champion is its sustainability. Steve says that contrary to popular belief, paper is one of the world's truly sustainable products. European forests, where much of the raw material comes from, have grown by an area the size of Switzerland in just 15 years. Moreover, paper is highly recyclable, with the ability to be reused up to seven times before being repurposed into other paper products. “Younger trees also absorb more carbon dioxide than older trees, so by regularly cutting mature trees down and replacing them with new ones, paper manufacturing actually helps us reduce our carbon footprint.” Steve says the environmental impact of print, when compared to its digital counterparts, is also often misunderstood. “While the information and communications technology industry accounts for around 2.5 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the pulp, paper, and printing industries contribute just about 1%. This fact challenges the common misconception that going digital is always the greener option.” Inkwise helps customers to leverage the unique advantages of print media. This commitment extends to production processes, with its heatset print process boasting a 99% clean air rating and full recycling of aluminium printing plates. “Our whole team has worked from the ground up in print, to where we are today.
