T T to page 70 Located on a prominent position in Christchurch’s luxury Cashmere Estate, a parcel of land pointing north in a unique arrowhead form influenced the design of a stunning single-storey home, and securing it success at the 2024 Canterbury/Westland ADNZ awards for the Hierarchy Group design team. Affectionately known as Arrow House, the project was awarded Highly Commended in Category 02, New Home Between 150sqm and 300sqm. “Hierarchy Group had been working with Cashmere Estate on other residential projects, and the opportunity arose for us to showcase our unique design-thinking, for a very uniquely shaped piece of land,” says Ash Wright, who led the project journey for Hierarchy Group.” The site’s unique wedge shape presented the design team with an opportunity to take full advantage of the almost 270-degree views across the wetlands and adjacent reserve. The house’s concept of ‘light and bright’ is reflected in the light brick and cedar cladding tones, both inside and out. The north-east façade is enhanced by elegant architectural fins that provide depth, variety and privacy. A discreet courtyard nestled between the two primary building forms on the north-west elevation, captures the afternoon sun and provides protection from prevailing winds. Guests enter the site from the rear and are gradually welcomed towards the front door as the building forms converge. The interior mirrors the façade, reflecting the Scandinavian aesthetic as the off-white brick flows from outside in, while pale timber floors lead you through the space. Spacious and adaptable, the 293sqm floor plan encompasses three double bedrooms, all opening to the outside and incredible surrounds. The living area and a study nook effortlessly accommodate family routines, and the versatile media room can be easily converted into a fourth bedroom, making the spaces functional and flexible. The open-plan living and dining room is awash with natural light and picturesque views, anchored by an elegantly detailed kitchen and a well-equipped scullery.
