Virtue Homes T T Hugh de Lacy DEVELOPMENT With two new show-homes about to be unveiled, Christchurch’s Virtue Homes is riding the economic wave in the Canterbury residential building market. Pitched at the retirement living and general residential new build market throughout the South Island, Virtue Homes was formed in 2023 with the aim of “challenging the status quo to offer our clients a transparent and enjoyable building experience,” Director Sam Cottam says. Sam and Virtue Homes’ Scott Taylor met about eight years ago while working on a retirement project and, “We saw an opportunity to put our collective experience and wide networks together to trade in the designand-build housing market and the retirement sector.” Apart from a stint playing professional rugby, Sam has worked in the construction industry since his late teens when he launched his career with a carpentry apprenticeship, followed by years on the tools. “We are committed to ensuring Virtue Homes is a collaborative business that creates a distinct platform for our clients, staff and stakeholders to achieve their dreams and vision, and collectively create clever designs, seamless builds and an outstanding outcome for all involved,” he says. Scott Taylor’s 25-year business background is a diverse one, spanning consulting, manufacturing and the corporate sector, and his role in Virtue Homes covers deal origination and execution, and over-sight of the day-today operations of the business. His construction experience includes 10 years developing his own projects and holding senior positions in top construction companies, heading the delivery of high-end architectural developments and commercial projects. Together Sam, Scott and the Virtue team, based in the Christchurch suburb of Burnside, have established Virtue Homes in a market that, albeit highly competitive, is “definitely showing signs of improvement,” Sam says. “The Reserve Bank’s recent interest rate cut has given people a bit more confidence, but we feel things will really ramp up after the next OCR announcement.” A sign of their confidence is the opening next year of show-homes in the Belgrove estate near Rangiora, and in Prebbleton, south of Christchurch. Virtue Homes works with a team of sub-contractors comprising a tight-knit team that has worked with Sam and Scott for many years. The company works with a range of architects and drafts-people on the designs of its homes, but many clients engage their own architects. “Either way, Scott and I are heavily involved in the design to ensure our clients are getting the best result,” Sam says. The company’s portfolio of designs is a blend of architectural concepts, investment property and design-and-build homes reflecting the directors’ commitment to flexibility and innovation. Virtue Homes has quickly established successful partnerships with its suppliers, no less than its sub-contractors, and builds its business around its awareness of the need for sustainability in the residential building industry. Its flair for design is supported by its use of innovative and superior building products aimed at making the finished home a unique and lasting expression of the client’s vision. “It’s your home and it’s our virtue that makes it,” Sam says Specialists in Plumbing, Gasfitting & Drainage since 1989 0274 323 788 | bs.plumbing@xtra.co.nz www.brettstanleyplumbing.co.nz From Concept To Creation Residential Scaffolding Industrial Scaffolding Commercial Scaffolding Infrastructure Scaffolding wayne@probuildscaffolding.co.nz 0272777011 probuildscaffolding.co.nz Proud to Support Virtue Homes WeProvidetheBestService Call us for a quote: Proudly supporting Virtue Homes We’re the suppliers and experts in heating and air-conditioning.
