Home Factor “This home perfectly encapsulates unique architectural designs, drawn from the autumn hues of Wanaka’s forestry.” BUILDING An earthy Wanaka house, designed and built by Home Factor, has been recognised at this year’s House of the Year Awards. The 180sqm home, that blends autumn tones of the Central Otago region with an elegant architectural design, took out silver in the 2024 Southern region awards. Home Factor director Priyanka Sareen says the team was grateful that the design, quality and end result were recognised by the awards. Home Factor has enjoyed success at previous awards since it first entered three years ago. “We have won either a gold or a silver for the homes we enter. That is a proud moment for our entire team that works tirelessly to bring our design vision to life,” Priyanka says. They were also awarded Highly Commended for home, bathroom and kitchen designs in the TIDA awards. The ethos of the Wanaka design was inspired by late autumn themes and the lush forestry of Wanaka, Priyanka says, with earthy tones of forest soils and vibrant hues. Artistically designed cedar slats form staggered mountain peaks, adding a touch of grandeur. Inside, the entrance includes a feature wall of dark-stain timber slatting, crafted to emulate the mountain peaks of the alpine region, and ambient spotlights throughout the home cast a warm and inviting glow. Throughout the home, earthy browns and neutral warm white paints create a cosy and modern feel. “This home perfectly encapsulates unique architectural designs, drawn from the autumn hues of Wanaka’s forestry,” Priyanka says. “From the sleek and refined exterior to the stunning interior design, every aspect of this architectural home was designed as an artistic homage to the alpine region.” Each aspect was built with premium-quality materials and architecturally refined with nature in mind, she says. The kitchen was crafted with deep browns to emulate the earthy tones of the forest. “Nero Dorato marble is a stunning stone that features on the countertop and the splashback. “Its dark, moody vibe parallels the rainsoaked soils in the alpine region, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication for the perfect kitchen backdrop.” The home was a spec build, allowing for creativity to flow, she says. “How our process works is that we buy land in desirable areas and then I spend a considerable amount of time on site to come up with a design inspiration. “For this home, I was inspired by the forests in Wanaka and the hues of autumn. As the architectural and interior designer for Home Factor, I love to design a home around a core inspiration. That enables a well-considered and cohesive design inside, outside, and one that is even reflected well in the landscaping.” Each Home Factor design is unique, never repeated and each home bespoke, she says. “Each home we design and build has a unique inspiration behind it.” As with any build, there were the usual challenges in managing contractors and quality of works while ensuring the focus is design-centred, says Priyanka. “We wanted to create a beautiful home that had a strong inspiration behind it and the design vision was brought to life in the architecture of the home and the interior design to create a very unique and cohesive design. We believe we achieved that.” Home Factor was started 10 years ago with the philosophy of thinking like their customers and setting themselves apart from the myriad of developers in the market, with the company being completely design and quality driven, Priyanka says.
