Spanning 513sqm, the development will soon be home to GM Building Wanaka Ltd and Wanaka Interior Doors Ltd, as both companies prepare to keep up with growing demand. The facility will be GM Building Wanaka’s base, and will act as a factory for Wanaka Interior Doors to fabricate and supply to the local market. GM Building Wanaka director Mike Plimmer says the development was intentionally designed to create an all-in-one, purpose-built hub. “Our goal is to offer a complete building service, while also supplying interior doors locally in Wanaka, reducing the need for clients to source products from outside the area. After all, every new home needs interior doors, so we see this as a natural part of the service we provide.” He says the Venture Crescent site has been progressing smoothly, with installation of the roof, windows and drainage already complete. Interior Gibstopping and ply lining were now underway, which meant a scheduled mid-November move-in date was on target. “Really, there have been no challenges,” he says. “Council were easy to work with during the resource consent process, and the weather has been kind to us over winter months without any holdups.” Once operational, the facility will expand its services to local builders and homeowners, with opportunities to retrofit doors into older properties as part of their work. The Venture Crescent development marks a new chapter, which is just one of many for GM Building Wanaka. The company was established in 2022, but prior to that was operating under the name Plimmer Building Contractors, which Mike started in 2005. Long-standing colleague Grant Masters then became co-director, which prompted a rebrand, changing the company name to GM Building Wanaka, while retaining the same trusted team. “Our expertise has grown through the years of local referrals, building a trusted reputation in the community by consistently delivering great service and looking after our staff well,” Mike says. The company is well-known for crafting high-quality architectural homes and renovations, while also undertaking select commercial projects. Its trusted reputation means GM Building’s workload is always steady. Mike says the company is not one that feels the need to “stand out” in order to keep work rolling in. Instead, work has grown mostly through word of mouth and repeat clients. “It’s the dedication of our team and the relationships we build that keep people coming back.” GM Building currently has six projects on its books across Wanaka and Hawea, which range from large architectural builds to traditional Central Otago-style homes. Those homes are helping assist with the area’s rapid growth. Mike says the team also takes its responsibility to support sustainable growth seriously. “For us, sustainable development means looking after Wanaka as it grows.
