The store was rebranded as Mitre 10 Wana- ka in 1995 and with the addition of a range of building materials and a garden extension, the store grew to become one of the country’s largest home solution stores. At the turn of the century, Dunedin brothers Martin Dippie and Allan Dippie bought the store and relocated the business to the Ander- son Heights Business Park in 2003. Serving the local community for the last 17 years, Martin and Allan made the call to rein- vent the business as Mitre 10 MEGA Wanaka and relocate to the new Three Parks business centre development. Sitting beneath the beauty and majesty of Mt Iron, the impressive new store has found a fitting home to serve its growing community. “The Wanaka community has been hugely supportive of our store, and we are excited to be giving back by delivering the best home improvement store we can,” says Martin. “The old store was about half the size of our new building and completely over-trading. We desperately needed to get out of it to take the pressure off the team.” Mitre 10’s General Manager of twenty years Mark Watson, agrees, saying the increased retail space and 243 carparks means Mitre 10’s service to the local community will be greatly enhanced. Martin and his brother believe it will be a good investment in the longer term, with the larger business allowing them to offer an extended product range and the big trade facility enabling them to cater to the scale of construction in the area. “We have future proofed ourselves by making sure the facility can handle at least 20 years’ growth. “The new store will also include a paint innovation centre, a kitchen and bathroom design hub, a specialist power and hand-tool area, and a covered drive-through timber and building materials yard.” The new building has 5000 square metres of retail space, 4000sqm of garden centre, and a one hectaref trade and timber yard. “The Wanaka community has been hugely supportive of our store, and we are excited to be giving back…”
