16 | REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Calder Stewart Milton - Mitre 10 Mega Wanaka Experienced team drives project build T Richard Loader N estled at the foot of Mt Iron, and just a short drive from the shores of Lake Wanaka, the impressive new Mitre 10 Mega Store is taking shape in Wanaka’s new Three Parks commercial and residential precinct. The new Mitre 10 Mega includes an impres- sive and modern retail store, drive-through trades sales shop and a Colombus Café, all encompassing a massive 9000 square metres of floor space. A 500 square metre mezzanine floor above the retail store provides management and staff with offices and boardroom. Home gardeners are treated to 4000 square metres of partially covered garden centre while 8000 square metres has been developed as a trade storage and inwards goods yard. The building was designed by Christchurch practice Bernard Johnston Architects, while the professionals at Engco were engaged as structural engineers. At the helm of construction, which com- menced September last year, is Milton based Calder Stewart. Project Manager for Calder Stewart, John Dawson, explains that project scope included construction of the new store, garden centre, café and yards, along with foundation work and flooring, external fencing and external product bins for landscaping products. “We were handed a based up site, with base course for the flooring slab completed. “The building is constructed of a steel frame and post tension concrete floor with Kingspan insulated panel roof and walls over the main retail area.
