This is certainly true of Murray Hewitt Joinery in Christchurch, where the team has been built an outstanding reputation within the industry over more than 20 years. While the company was not able to op- erate during level 4 lockdown, it came back very strongly afterwards with two very good months. “Of course, we don’t yet know what’s going to happen next year but at this stage we have jobs lined up all the way through to Christ- mas,” says Murray. Clients of this award-winning company know they can expect great personal ser- vice and quality workmanship, delivered by a skilled and experienced team who are passionate about what they do. Murray Hewitt Joinery has an extensive joinery portfolio, in which solid timber is a recurring theme. “We have a very knowledgeable team in the workshop. I’ve been in joinery all my life as has my colleague Steve, who started out with me here, and my factory manager, Daniel. We have two highly experienced furniture makers. Everyone here is a joiner and we all work to- gether to come up with the very best solutions for our clients.” Murray Hewitt Joinery brings considerable capability to Canterbury’s high end home mar- ket, encompassing not just kitchen, bathroom and laundry joinery but also bespoke furni- ture, doors, windows and stairs. Often clients may choose not just kitchen joinery but will also have other work done at the same time, such as window replacements or bespoke furniture touches. One of their more memora- ble one-of-a-kind projects involved completing a walnut wood-panelled library room in Tai Tapu, complete with mantles and dodo rails. As well as working on projects for home owners, Murray Hewitt Joinery works with builders, architects and designers who know they can rely on high standard results being achieved. One of their recent projects with Donna involved a new home interior on Redmund Spur, where the elements included kitchen, laundry, entertain- ment area, master bedroom robe and all the other robes and vanities. “It was a big job and the end result was superb. We really can offer the whole package from design through to installation.” More often than not, clients who have had one joinery project completed by Murray and the team come back later for something else. Many of their client relationships go back a decade or more. Bookings come in from all over Canterbury. “We recently did a big timber job north of Kaikōura at Clarence and we have another one in Kaikōura now, plus a job at Lake Kaniere through an architect. We can generally work on projects within two or three hours of Christchurch.” Murray Hewitt Joinery has completed some impressive projects this year, including refur- bishment of a gracious old homestead near Rotherham with new exterior bi-fold doors and windows, where door mouldings were carefully matched to the home’s style and character. As well, the team completed a new kitchen and pantry for the homestead, along with a new laundry and entertainment area. “The builder took out walls and that really opened up the whole house. It used to have a separate kitchen space but that has now been joined up with the living space – it all looks really good.” Another big project has involved an old Fernside homestead with an ultra-modern extension, where the joinery team installed new windows and doors, a new kitchen and scullery, vanities, plus wardrobe work.
