We also catered for large roller door openings for both business operations to allow plenty of clearance for vehicles to be safely moved in and about. Skylights in the roof provide a lot of natural lighting flooding into the work- shops areas.” After completing initial concept draw- ings in-house and project scope agreed to Totalspan North Canterbury outsourced the completion of working drawings for submis- sion to Council. Completed to ‘lock-up shell’ stage, scope encompassed the supply of all materials, including steel framework, long run cladding, foundations and concrete floor. “The ground was quite soft and peaty so we engaged a foundation specialist to develop and lay a site specific foundation design and concrete floor.” All steel framework including framing and long run is manufactured from New Zealand steel in Totalspan’s Christchurch factory then transported to site for assembly. “We now have three full time build crews working for us on contract, so they were en- gaged to erect the building.” The two month build was completed at the end of August 2018 without complica- tion and Jamie says the building features very well in the high profile area of Rangiora which is home to an increasing number of commercial businesses and attracts a high volume of traffic. Operating from north of the Waimakariri River right through to South of the Clarence River in Kaikoura, Jamie says while known for commercial, industrial and lifestyle buildings, Totalspan North Canterbury has received increasing enquiries about residential builds. “People are finding it to be a more cost effective way of building and are looking for something just a little bit different—we can offer that.
