Now celebrating 10 years in business, Entire Electrical Solutions has achieved the vision it started out with, to become a specialist new home electrical services provider that is trusted throughout New Zealand to deliver great electrical solutions on time and on budget. In 2013, new residential projects were just starting to ramp up in Christchurch after the earthquakes. Jake Lewis had been in the electrical trade for 10 years and had the experience to start honing his specialisation and make the most of the post-earthquake boom by delivering successful new residential projects with Entire Electrical Solutions. “New housing has always been our thing,” he says. “The first few years we worked on a lot of rebuilds in Christchurch’s eastern suburbs, and for the past few years we’ve been doing more infill housing, townhouses, and apartments, including some very large blocks of 80 to 90 apartments.” By 2016, Entire Electrical Solutions was over the hump of earthquake rebuild work in Christchurch so Jake looked to take his company’s expertise to New Zealand’s biggest marketplace, setting up a second branch in Auckland. “Following on from there, we’ve opened branches in the Bay of Plenty, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Whangarei, Wellington, Nelson, and Queenstown.” Jake says key to the success of Entire Electrical Solutions all over the country is its understanding of the nature of new housing and how to make it profitable. “If you’re the kind of sparky who starts the day at the wholesalers having a coffee and a chat, it’s pretty hard to make a go of it.” Rather, Entire Electrical Solutions is highly organised and very, very experienced. “We know the questions to ask of builders and clients, and we have very good process around how we interact with both, with emphasis on clear lines of communication and clarity.” Efficiency and organisation around the physical act of doing the work means minimal downtime for the Entire Electrical Solutions team. Jake says his team works very hard, and he tries to look after them by being a flexible boss who respects his staff, rewards good work, makes a point of sharing customers’ feedback, and pays above market rates. “If you do it well, you can pay people well and provide a good product at a good price. There is no reason you can’t do all three.” Entire Electrical Solutions has been enjoying the post-Covid boom and the past 18 months have been busier than ever. In Christchurch alone, Entire Electrical Solutions completed more than 500 new homes and units in one year. “Traditionally we do about 300 to 350 so it’s really phenomenal.” In the current market the workflow is about 40% down off those big numbers so still very busy. “I don’t know if it’s going to get much quieter. Even in a bust time in Christchurch there are still hundreds and hundreds of new homes being built. People might be nervous right now about putting money into a builder they don’t know to build a house from scratch, but once a house is near completion, there are no surprises in the contract. “We’re currently wiring a lot of houses that are still being built and don’t have owners, then before the house is finished it has an owner and we’re making changes to personalise it for them.
