74 | No job too big or small From new builds to chalets. sheds and large renovations, no jobs are the same for Ant Wallace Building. BUILDING Ant Wallace Building There’s not many jobs Ant Wallace Building can’t do. The Tapanui-based builders take on a wide range of projects from new build to renovations to agricultural structures and fences, and external makeovers. The family owned and operated business was formed in October 2016 and started out with just Ant on the tools and Donna Wallace doing the admin side. Builder Sam Hesselin joined them in 2017. Ant had worked with Sam while undergoing his building apprenticeship, and Ant can puts a lot of what he learnt during these years down to Sam’s patience and skills. Fast forward to today and the company has grown to employ five qualified builders and three apprentices. Picking the right team to carry out your building project was key, Ant said. From the main contractor to the subcontractors, getting a complete team saved time, money and stress. The company has a great team of subcontractors including plumbers, electricians, painters, plasterers, and brick and block layers. “We are lucky to have an amazing bunch of staff with all levels of skills and experience that all work well together and on their own – AWB would not be the company it is without our staff! And the support of all our clients big or small,” Ant said. The couple’s children are also on hand to help out - you can often find them cleaning the vans at the weekend. Although based in Tapanui, the company travels as far as Clinton, to Roxburgh and Gore, carrying out a wide range of building work from new builds, renovations, to agricultural constructions such as sheds and concrete pads. “This fits well with our business and area it T T Rosa Watson also means the staff get to put their hands to all different tasks and apprentices get to learn all areas of the building industry,” Ant said. The planning stage was a vital part of the process, especially when consents were involved. “Consents can take a long time to come through and there is always a consent cost involved when changes are made.” However, they were flexible through the project and understood that sometimes client’s visions changed during the project. “We will always work with the client to get the best result.” The Clutha area was growing rapidly and more sections were needed for growth to happen throughout West Otago. Supply of products and the price increase in materials had been a huge challenge for the company over the past couple of years, which had involved a lot more planning and organising, Donna said. But there were plenty of highlights, including some large renovations completed to a high standard and some stand out new sheds. “(There’s been) amazing new builds, chalets in Ettrick just to name a few – but every job is a highlight - no jobs are the same, and no job is too big or too small for the team at AWB. Our motto is building the Future restoring the past. “We also like to help out in our community with donated time and materials to help the local organisations make West Otago a better place.” 11 Huron Street, Gore 03 204 2323 | Nigel 027 204 2015 | Terry’s 027 204 2123 ELECTRICIANS & PLUMBERS EXPERIENCED IN DOMESTIC, COMMERICAL & INDUSTRIAL WORK INCLUDING AUTOMATION Suppliers of Vantage Aluminium & Klima UPVC Windows and Doors sales@aitkenjoinery.co.nz www.aitkenjoinery.co.nz Gore 18 Gorton St 03 208 6750 Cromwell 54 McNulty Rd 03 445 4000 Dunedin 19b Portsmouth Dr 03 244 8271
