BUILDING Hillview Construction A Christchurch-based building company has made a name for taking on challenging projects that require a highly technical approach. Hillview Construction, owned by Kate and Shaun Campbell, is small, locally owned company that enjoy the challenge of site specific solutions. The company focuses on three to four architectural new builds a year. “Because of that, we can commit to providing personalised attention and be actively involved in every step of the way. We ensure every detail is carefully planned and constructed to the highest quality in craftmanship,” Kate said. The couple started after seeing a gap in the market in difficult hill builds and architectural new builds. “We pride ourselves on being able to find site-specific solutions and complete more challenging builds such as tilt slab homes, split level, duplex cantileveled and pole houses. Sloping hill sites are our specialty. “It’s this experience that allows us to build a huge variety of buildings and we have the experience and knowledge to take on any project.” This year they took out the Master Builders Canterbury House of the Year awards in the new Home $2 million to $4 million category for a house built in Sumner. It also received a regional gold award and was placed in the top 100 national awards. The 307sqm family home at the top of Richmond Hill in Sumner has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and two living rooms beneath two gable-roofed wings. The architecturally designed home is divided into two sections, connected by a walkway sitting in between and has spectacular views of the Canterbury coastline. It’s not their frst success the awards - last year they also made the top 100 national awards and received a gold award in the Canterbury awards, and in 2020 they received a gold award. In 2017, they received a gold reserve award at the national awards, and gold and silver awards and a local category winner award at the Canterbury awards. The company have completed builds right throughout the South Island, but mainly focus on the Canterbury region. Receiving these Master Builders Awards meant a huge amount for the team, Kate said. “It shows the extremely high level of finish we achieve on our builds over all aspects. We know that we are lucky to create these extremely special projects for our clients and to be able to showcase not only our hard work that goes into them but all the other subcontractors that work together to get to the end product and make a customer’s dream home.” Running a smaller company allowed Shaun to still be hands on with every build and ensured clients got the best results and highest quality for their new builds, Kate said. Kate brings a background of business management to the team, and Shaun has been building homes for more than 20 years. Before starting the Hillview Construction, Shaun went through his apprenticeship with a company that predominantly built on hill sections which is where he developed a passion for the more challenging build, and learnt the importance of skill level and details.
