APH Design and Build T T Kelly Deeks BUILDING Family building company APH Design and Build has been creating high quality family homes around Blenheim and Marlborough since 2009. Andrew Pope and his wife Michelle have lived and worked in Marlborough all their lives, and their knowledge and experience of the province makes them an exceptional partner and advisor in the design and build journey of any local family. A true family business, Andrew followed his dad Graham into the construction industry more than 30 years ago. He started Andrew Pope Homes with Michelle, and the couple recently renamed their business to reflect the bespoke nature of their services and the unique homes they deliver which make the most of the every site’s features and suit the individual tastes and requirements of every customer. Today Andrew runs APH Design and Build with Michelle, while their son Brad is a builder for the company, their son Chris is the draughtsman tailoring each new home to suit personal requirements, and their youngest child Jaz handles all of APH Design and Build’s social media presence. The family is supported by a dedicated team of experienced builders, many of whom have worked with Andrew and Michelle for several years, and trusted local tradespeople whose high standards help the Pope family to turn out smooth running, high quality projects. APH Design and Build likes to design homes around its clients’ budgets, paring back where necessary to design nice homes that work well for what the client wants. APH Design and Build now has a brand new show home on Wai-iti Ave, which has been designed and built as a beautiful showcase for spending time with family and friends, with some of Andrew and Michelle’s favourite features for family living. “We design all of our show homes around how we think people would live in our homes,” Michelle says. “Our lives are lived all around spending time with our family and friends, and all of our show homes are unique, but designed with that in mind. Our latest show home is another version of that, and we’ve taken some of the best features we’ve ever built and put them into the design.” A couple of these features which speak to family time and entertaining friends, are the booth seating in the kitchen and a wine cellar perfectly placed in the heart of New Zealand’s famous sauvignon blanc region. Instead of being shut away behind opaque or frosted glass, both bathrooms lead to a private courtyard planted in natives for a tranquil connection to nature. The exterior of this home has been clad in white Rockcote and a stunning Suyaki ThermoWood cladding from the Blackwood Project. This striking charred timber cladding is the brainchild of Kiwi entrepreneur John Webster, who uses the Japanese art of shou sugi ban to preserve wood and produce a hard-wearing, long-lasting, and low maintenance finish. The resultant cladding is bug proof, UV protected, and guaranteed weathertight.
