Backing on to The Esplanade, Forbury Road provides a prominent location and a high-profile project for the long-standing W Hamilton Building. W Hamilton Building is a residential and commercial building company which has become well-known and respected throughout Dunedin since its inception in 1996. This highly experienced and capable team was the perfect choice to deliver a fantastic final product. Project manager Jason Graham had previously worked with the client, and the trust built in that relationship was one of the reasons the client moved comfortably ahead with this big project. Meanwhile, the owner of the two groundfloor hospitality outlets has a repeat relationship with W Hamilton Building, whose owners Bill Hamilton and Greg Cramond are delighted to continue to strengthen that connection with another job well done. “We are a relationships-based business, and we pride ourselves on looking after people,” Bill says. “On this project, we are working on what is one of Dunedin’s most popular pedestrian precincts and we don’t have a lot of elbow room. It’s quite a different scenario to building in an open space. “So we are working in closely with our neighbours, keeping them well-informed and being considerate of their space while still getting our job done. It’s a balancing act, but it’s always important to us to work with integrity.” W Hamilton Building has thought carefully about its building methodology on this tight but prominent site with adjacent buildings, while working with scaffolding, craneage, and waste and traffic management. Health and safety is of paramount significance. The W Hamilton Building team working on this project has been a huge asset. The friendly and professional team operates with fantastic team work, takes meticulous control over the programme, and delivers exceptional levels of finishing. “We have a really great team,” Bill says. “We’ve got Jason project-managing this job alongside Dillon, our construction manager, and they are supported by three foremen, who are taking responsibility for the retail spaces, the internal apartment fit-outs, and closing the building in respectively. The subcontractors working on this project also provide key strengths for the wider W Hamilton Building team, and working together again helps to advance these valued relationships with quality partners. Set for completion early 2025, this building is really taking shape on what was an empty, unused site for 25 years. “It’s awesome that our client has seen it as an opportunity and moved forward with it.
