Electrical contracting runs across three generations of the Rawson family within Plunket Electrical Group of Timaru and Oamaru. Mark’s father, Mike acquired the business in 1979 from its founder Maurice Plunket, who first set up the electrical contracting company in the 1940s. “We’re founded on strong family ties, and in fact Dad is a past-president of Master Electricians, and he and I both share a love of the trade, the welfare of its tradespeople and the future of the industry.” Mark thanked his business partners and his staff for supporting him to take on the role, which follows on from his two years as Master Electricians New Zealand vice-president. “My role as national president is about taking the views of our national body of members to the board level and national office so we can advocate to government on behalf of the industry and boost the morale, confidence and benefits for our membership.” The Plunket Electrical Group is made up of three companies with varying shareholding, Plunket Electrical Oamaru, Plunket Electrical Timaru and Plunket Appliances & Data.
