The 225sqm family home is located in Plantation Heights, a new subdivision north of the Balclutha Bridge, where the clients sought to maximise their property’s potential, particularly its views over a nature reserve and the townscape. The sloping, triangular-shaped site presented challenges and opportunities, says Sarah Teasdale. “They provided us with a brief, and we re-imagined it as an H shape. The homeowners, a retired couple, are thrilled with the transformation of their home into a modern spacious retreat. SB2 Build’s work has also featured on Grand Designs NZ in November 2020 in recognition for their work on the Ultramodern Rooftop Apartment – a contemporary rooftop apartment on top of one of Dunedin’s multi storey heritage buildings. This complex project involved earthquake strengthening, sound and ire-rated systems, and a challenging it-out at height.
