T T Karen Phelps A new development on Buckleys Road is set to bring 10 distinctive, high-spec homes to one of Rangiora’s most sought-after residential streets, with completion expected in March 2027. Oakville Estates Ltd is developing the properties, which have been designed specifically with the Rangiora market in mind. All 10 homes are being designed and built by the company, with Walker Architects creating a complementary collection of traditional-style homes. Oakville Estates director, Quintin Bruce, says the development represents a rare opportunity to secure a new home in a particularly attractive part of Rangiora. Buckleys Rd has always been very popular. It’s a nice street with established trees, it’s off the main drag but you’ve still got amenities and schools nearby,” he says. Each home will be approximately 150sqm and sit on a 330sqm section, with single-level living and a double garage accessed from the right of way. The properties will have three good-sized bedrooms, including a master bedroom with ensuite, as well as an additional bathroom. Open-plan living areas, cathedral ceilings, tiled showers and well-appointed kitchens are among the features planned for the homes. While there will be a mix of designs, claddings and roof colours, the properties will be designed to complement one another and create a cohesive development. Outdoor living has also been incorporated into the designs. A key point of difference is that none of the homes will be offered to the market until construction and landscaping on all of the homes have been completed. “We want people to know exactly what the development will look like and exactly what they’re buying,” says Quintin. “There’s no chance of surprises.” The homes are expected to appeal to a broad section of the Rangiora market, including older couples looking for single-level living and young families wanting access to schools and recreational facilities. New Life School, Southbrook School and Te Matauru Primary School are all within walking distance, and Southbrook Park is also close by. Retail and other amenities include Rangiora’s Main Street within a short drive or walk. Quintin says the development comes at a time when the Rangiora property market remains buoyant. “Agents are saying it’s very much a growing town,” he says. For Oakville Estates, the Buckleys Rd project builds on its experience developing residential and lifestyle properties across North Canterbury. The directors of the locally owned and operated company have lived in the area all their lives, and have previously delivered projects including the 23-section Oakville Residential Estate on Pentecost Road, West Rangiora, and The Poplars lifestyle development near Ohoka. Quintin says Rangiora’s combination of accessibility and community character is a major attraction. “It’s a great place to live. It feels like you’re in the country a bit. You’ve got the old-school Main Street and village feel, but with all the amenities people need.” With Christchurch around 20 minutes away and Christchurch Airport approximately 15 minutes by car, Rangiora offers convenient connections while retaining a distinct town and semi-rural character. At a population of around 20,000, the town continues to attract residents seeking a balance between access to the city and a more relaxed way of life. “They will be distinctive homes,” says Quintin. “We think it’s a really nice opportunity for Rangiora.”
