Pringle Homes is putting flexibility at the heart of its latest Christchurch show home, demonstrating how thoughtful architectural design can be adapted to suit the many different ways people want to live. The new show home at Meadow Stream on Styx Mill Road has now been open for several months, giving visitors the opportunity to experience its mono-pitch design, high-quality finishes and low-maintenance materials firsthand. Pringle Homes director, Aaron Pringle, says the home has been deliberately designed with flexibility in mind. Rather than presenting clients with a finished formula, it provides a starting point for a conversation about what will work best for them. “We want people to come in and see what it looks like and how big it is, then start the conversation about how they want to live,” he says. The plan can be made larger or smaller, converted to four bedrooms, adapted to include three-car garaging, or flipped to better suit a particular section. Its mono-pitch form can also be reworked into a pavilion-style design. That flexibility reflects the way Pringle Homes works with its clients, tailoring projects around their lifestyle, priorities and budget rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. The Meadow Stream show home also gives people a useful reference point for features and details that can often be difficult to appreciate from plans alone. Throughout the home, visitors can see high-quality finishes and concealed joinery, T T to page 100 raking ceilings and contemporary exterior materials, including Forte cladding, which provides the warmth and appearance of timber without the same level of maintenance. Feedback since the show home opened has been strong, with visitors responding particularly well to the quality of the finishes, the sense of space and the home’s distinctive design. For Aaron, however, the value of a show home goes well beyond displaying products and materials. It provides an opportunity to sit down with clients and understand what matters to them, where they want to invest their budget, and where they would prefer to make savings. “A high-performing house can reduce the amount of energy required to run those systems, making efficiency a key consideration from the beginning of the design process.”
