| 31 Construction Solutions Central: Clearwater Quays A stairwell and lift shaft wraps around one face of the building, while a curved wave-like ground to roof wall extends beyond. DEVELOPMENT Contemporary, weathertight and durable, Flashclad’s extruded aluminium façade cladding system was selected as the primary cladding product used on Clearwater Quays’ recently completed apartment buildings. The product was installed by licenced distributor Flashclad - Canterbury. “We worked with Clearwater Quays’ architects during the design process, and provided a lot of input around speci ic design details,” says Flashclad - Canterbury’s Managing Director Trevor Hendry. “The architects have made an excellent job of utilising our products to best e ect. Clearwater Quays is the biggest project that we’ve completed in Christchurch so far with about 1200sqm of cladding used. It’s a very nice design and we’re extremely proud to be involved with the project.” Flashclad was developed in the early 2000s in response to the leaky-homes crisis. The company’s two innovative founders developed an extruded aluminium window lashing system that solved the leaks around windows where most leaky homes issues were coming from. In 2012 the cladding system was added to the portfolio. While Head O ice is based in Christchurch, licenced distributors and installers operate throughout the country. Flashclad Canterbury operates from Kaikoura down to the Waitaki River. Flashclad’s distributors are all licenced Flashclad - Canterbury building practitioners and business owners who also have extensive knowledge in building design and weathertightness. Most distributors have small to mid-range building companies, many of which are highly awarded for their work on prestigious and complicated projects. “The majority of our work comes from architects who specify us in their plans, and recommend us to their clients,” says Trevor. “We like the opportunity to add value to the design process, through early engagement with the architect. The majority of our work is the higher-end architectural home and commercial buildings.” Trevor says, because of its reliability and reputation for weather tightness, the Flashclad product has been used in many multi-storey projects in Auckland and Wellington. “Our system has been tested for multi-storey buildings above 10 metres and subject to high-wind factors. It’s a very strong system that has been speci ically designed for weather tightness and durability. Our cladding system has a 75-year life expectancy. The point of di erence really is our lashing system — no question about it. It’s unique. There’s no other system like it in the country. Our system requires no sealant, no rivets, it’s made from extruded aluminium and the system incorporates the ‘Four D’s’ of weather tightness — De lection, Drainage, Drying and Durability, and with the ifth being ‘doable’. Builders really enjoy using the product.” PROUD TO SUPPORT Construction Solutions Central MANDEVILLE ST, CHRISTCHURCH 03 348 0939 FLOORPRIDE.COM feel love see
