Owned and operated by the founder’s sons’ Robert and Alistair Read, grandson Lachlan, and two of the company’s foremen – Hamish McLeod and Corey Geddes – Geoff Read operates throughout the Canterbury region and further afield as required. A civil engineer by profession, Lachlan spent five years working for large piling companies in Australia and the United Kingdom undertaking substantial commercial projects before returning home in 2017 and taking responsibility for design and construction management. The lure of working in a smaller family owned and operated business with total control over the whole project from design to hand-over along with a collaborative approach with clients was compelling, as was the Mid-Canterbury lifestyle of mountain biking and skiing. “Over the years the company has grown and we now service the residential, commercial and rural construction sectors, completing works that vary from architectural new builds through to commercial warehouse and offices, to dairy shed and other rural construction “Over the years the company has grown and we now service the residential, commercial and rural construction sectors, ...” projects,” says Lachlan. “During the dairy boom we were building dairy sheds flat out. At the moment there are not very many dairy sheds being built so we have diversified into a broad range of projects to keep our team fully employed.” For the last 50 years the company has operated a dedicated joinery factory utilising CNC technology to produce kitchens, wardrobes and laundry cabinetry as well as bespoke items such as solid wood vanities, and staircases. For commercial projects, a dedicated steel pre-cast bed produces tilt slab panels. T to page 78
