Proudly supporting the latest Bascik Transport build Bascik Transport, a leading player in the logistics and transportation industry, is set to redefine the landscape of transport with the unveiling of its state-of-the-art transport hub in Christchurch. Constructed in collaboration with Calder Stewart, the ambitious project is poised to bring about a host of benefits that will not only propel Bascik’s growth but also streamline operations, setting new standards of efficiency and customer satisfaction, says Bascik Transport general manager Owain Davies. “We were having to put a stop on sales due to the limitations of our previous facilities, but now with the new transport hub, we’ve got room to grow,” he says. The distribution hub spans 6000sqm with canopies throughout giving 5000sqm of undercover loading area. The facility’s strategic placement means it is shielded from the main southerly wind reflecting Bascik’s commitment to optimising its operations. What sets this hub and surrounding facilities apart is its integration of cutting-edge technology. For example with the simple push of a button Owain says 14 roller doors can be operated simultaneously, streamlining the loading and unloading processes and expediting the flow of goods. This innovative approach to automation not only enhances efficiency but also underscores Bascik’s commitment to staying at the forefront of industry advancements. Bascik’s journey to this milestone has been characterised by perseverance and strategic expansion. The roots of the development trace back to its modest beginnings on Matipo Street in 1982. Over the years, Bascik Transport strategically acquired neighbouring parcels of land, culminating in the acquisition of the old Pacifica Seafoods site in late 2021 meaning that Bascik Transport owns 40,000 square metres of land, effectively doubling its land holding. The Pacifica Seafoods site, which was accompanied by functional equipment and structures, provided the canvas upon which the new distribution hub was built. The journey involved a meticulous process of selling off equipment and demolishing existing structures. Owain says that Calder Stewart’s has been a valuable part of Bascik’s growth story. “Calder Stewart has been a long-running partner of ours and has helped us to build our sites. We have four sites throughout Christchurch now, three of which have been built by Calder Stewart. “They know what we want, and they do a great job, and we have good relationships with them,” says Owain.
