Julian said although there was a national downturn occurring, it did not seem to be affecting the region with continued growth in population tourism. “The Queenstown construction and contracting scene used to be more of a cyclic boom or bust environment. “This has changed over the past 10 years with exponential population and tourism growth, to a point where the district has created its own momentum and economic security as a 12-month-a-year, sought after destination and a jewel in New Zealand’s tourism crown,” Julian said. Base has a team of 40 full-time staff, as well as machine operators including qualified drainlayers and water retic operators. It has been in operation since 2007, starting with a small team of eight.
