Recognizing the environmental impact of transportation, the company has championed the use of New Zealand’s rail network. By partnering with KiwiRail, Bascik Transport has significantly reduced carbon emissions and diesel consumption. Owain says that rail transport’s ability to move large quantities of goods with fewer emissions and less road congestion aligns seamlessly with the company’s vision of eco-conscious logistics. Bascik Transport’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond rail utilization. The company’s forward-thinking approach involves promoting bulk freighting, which reduces the number of inter-island trips and minimizes the carbon footprint associated with frequent small shipments. “We encourage our clients to freight their goods in bulk, reducing the impact that transporting smaller products more frequently into South Island destinations has on our environment,” he says. As Bascik Transport continues to redefine industry standards, the company’s future plans and goals reflect its dedication to expansion and innovation. “We are finishing off our network and are currently building another project with the assistance of Calder Stewart in Dunedin on half of the old Carisbrook sport venue. The 8000sqm site will become the new Dunedin depot, due to be operational by late September. We are also in the planning stage at the moment for a new Nelson depot for 2024 and we’re looking to open a small depot in Timaru early 2024. We’re always looking at what we can do next.”
