Based in Rolleston the workshop employs a team of around 15 staff and supports Industrial Controls long-standing engineering/automation facility in Christchurch. Company CEO Jim Evans says the new workshop will enhance Industrial Controls’ offering to its clients in the region, which also includes a business in Timaru with over 90 staff which includes electrical engineers, project engineers, automation engineers, electricians and IT engineers. “The new facility in Rolleston will give us the ability to meet demand, grow and deliver our customers an even better turnkey solution,” he says. Industrial Controls had its beginnings in Timaru around 25 years ago and specialises in industrial electrical automation systems, providing control solutions for industry. Industrial Controls’ vision is simple, says Jim: to deliver effective long-term solutions that make a difference to its clients businesses. It is now one of the regions foremost providers of industrial electrical automation systems with a growing team of over 100 staff. “This means we are well placed to provide quality, effective solutions for industry from concept and design through to installation and commissioning, management, monitoring and maintenance,” says Jim. A 24/7 call out service is also offered to all clients. Jim says a pertinent area that many businesses are not addressing is protecting their automation data security. In the age of cyberthreats he says this can be a weak point for businesses and one that Industrial Controls helps clients to protect so their business can operate securely and unhindered. He says the modern plant has a TCP network as its data communications backbone. Each level of communications should be on its own segregated VLAN (virtual local area network) for both security and traffic management. “We manage everything from controlling data, security of data, backup of databases and building networks so data can flow,” he says.
