BUILDING “That Project involves the reception area, restaurant, office bock, and toilet block. We have been there since the start of the year and are just getting to the end of it now. We work lightly in the commercial space, and this would be the biggest project we have done to date. Some while ago we did a full restoration on Central Otago Funeral’s building and also built one in Wanaka for the same company.” Brook Carr Building’s team has now grown to four carpenters and two apprentices. “We need apprentices in the industry, so that there are people to take our places eventually,” says Brook. “We have people who have worked with us for two or three years, we have trained them up well and they have gone out to start their own businesses, which we have supported. I am always available on the end of the phone to offer advice.” A back injury some while ago has meant that Brook spends much of his time running projects from within the office, but he says with the way the trade has evolved, there is now a lot more involved with running projects, and having someone administration based means they run much smoother. “Building client relationships is one of the keys to our success in this industry, but equally so is quality workmanship and loyalty. Our goal is to keep all parties happy, so that we can get repeat business or referrals.” “We do like the renovation projects.
