| 87 Totalspan North Canterbury Steel framed Totalspan sheds are all New Zealand made. BUILDING Founded ive years ago in the North Island, Skyhooks is a niche business utilising 4x4 mini cranes for those compact all-terrain lifts where nothing else will do. From lifting outdoor pizza ovens, spas and pools, awkward or heavy items such as statues, pianos or palm trees, solar panels, or building materials, SkyHooks NZ provides quick, easy and compact lifting solutions. The company’s rapid growth has included a network of franchise owners, and in 2020 Matt Columbus joined the Skyhooks family as the irst South Island franchisee, covering the Canterbury and Marlborough regions. “It was a new concept to the South Island,” says Matt. “What appealed to me was that the mini-cranes o ered a safe and cost-e ective alternative to companies using manual labour to lift materials. We ill that gap between manual handling, and where a larger hiab crane is not needed or can’t work in the tight access or terrain.” Matt bought his irst 4x4 mini-crane in August of 2020, and a second one in November that year. “We can lift up to two tonnes next to the truck and at full boom extension of 6.79 meters our capacity is half a tonne. With a 2.6m crane pivot we can reach up to 9 meters to the bottom of the hook. We also have the advantage of a 1 tonne winch SkyhooksNZ Canterbury itted to assist in lifting and lowering items from elevated positions.” Matt’s depot is based in Tuahiwi, North Canterbury, where he also provides an increasingly popular storage for items pending their inal delivery destination. He also maintains a virtual-depot in Christchurch. While the franchise region covers Timaru right up to the top of the South Island, Matt is currently the only South Island franchisee and undertakes jobs throughout the South. TotalSpan - North Canterbury has become one of Matt’s regular clients, utilising Skyhooks’ all terrain mini cranes to deliver shed packs to site. “The shed is often the irst thing built on a rural new build where a road or driveway hasn’t been established. I can go in with the kitset shed pack on my 4x4 mini-crane purpose-built trailer and deliver it, regardless of the terrain conditions. I also work with a lot of landscapers, signage companies, electrical companies, and security companies. We have lifted a lot of garden art, old car bodies, and lifting things out of boats. In the rural sector we deliver water tanks and concrete troughs to remote locations.” Matt says providing a very personal service, and o ering lifting solutions when access is tight or the access terrain is challenging will always be at the heart of the company’s success. @MINICRANES4x4 WWW.SKYHOOKS.NZ MATT@SKYHOOKS.NZ 021 848 250 SKYHOOKS NZ - YOUR SMALL LIFT SPECIALISTS For all your excavation needs, get in touch today! 027 846 0686 | Goodwinexcavations@hotmail.com ▶ Tree Work ▶ Transport ▶ Augering ▶ BMX & Motocross Tracks ▶ Foundations ▶ Demolition ▶ Hill Sites ▶ Driveways
