We’ve just built our relationship from there; we are out there every week working on projects and maintenance at the airport.” T T to page 108 Diversification combined with a focus on developing good business relationships is underpinning strong demand for Bragg Building & Design’s services. Owned by Shahn and Lorenna Bragg, Shahn says the past year has been the busiest in the company’s 10 year history. Bragg Building & Design employs 12 trade staff and has delivered hundreds of new builds and renovations projects for private and corporate clients, government agencies and various other organisations. “We’ve been doing some work building new homes for Kāinga Ora and we are just starting another project at the moment for Murihiku Marae for kaumatua houses; we’ve got four dual dwelling units on the go at the moment.” In addition, Shahn co-owns Cohesive Construction Southland which supplies Wide Span Sheds to which Bragg Building & Design sub-contracts. Wide Span Sheds offers a comprehensive range of sheds and garages for rural, commercial, industrial, aviation and residential purposes that are available in many sizes and configurations. They can also be designed as habitable buildings and are highly customisable, with a range of cladding profiles and colours and the option of mezzanines and interior layouts to suit every need and can be matched with existing buildings or to stand out and make a strong design statement. “We just finished a building for Air New Zealand at Invercargill Airport and one for a private hanger out there as well.” The Air New Zealand project involved building a 27x22 metre shed for equipment storage. The hanger features a single panel 20 metre wide AeroPanel tilt door that is 6.5 metres high, while the private hanger is 24x22 metres for a total footprint of 528 square metres. Gaining the Air New Zealand project highlights how many jobs have come to Bragg Building and Design as a result of other work or word-of-mouth referrals, Shahn explains. “A couple of years ago we extended the fire station to fit in the airport’s new firefighting appliance. “We’ve just built our relationship from there; we are out there every week working on projects and maintenance at the airport. “As well as that we do a lot of work for Powernet and we do a lot their substation upgrades and maintenance for them as well.” Shahn says that this diversification as well as having a ‘can do’ attitude has created the opportunity for the business to continue to grow, even during a cooling construction market.
