MANUFACTURING Pace Furniture Since the late 1960s, Christchurch-based Pace Furniture has forged a reputation as a trusted manufacturer and wholesaler of soft furniture including lounge suites and occasional chairs, supplying to some of New Zealand’s best loved retailers. Today, Warwick Lynch is at the helm of the business. The third owner to continue in the traditions of furniture craftsmanship, Warwick had spent a number of years as Factory Manager, before taking the opportunity to buy it in 2016. Reflecting on the success of the almost sixty-year-old business, Warwick has absolutely no hesitation in extolling the virtues of his experienced team, many of whom have been part of the company’s journey for three decades. “I really have a wonderful team. Our clients love them, and that is why they come back. We have a total of fourteen staff on the tools including tradesmen upholsterers, and people skilled in sewing and cutting. We don’t have any apprentices currently, though we would like to if we could find them.” Pace Furniture’s selection of lounge suites, settees, occasional chairs and foot stools can be found in quality furniture retailers, throughout New Zealand including McKenzie & Willis and Tillmans in Christchurch, Stacks Furniture in Wellington, Queenstown Furniture, along with many other retailers. “Over the years we have made over 300 designs for lounge suites, though today we manufacture about 60 different designs,” says Warwick. “We are very customer driven.” In recent years the company has broadened its offering to include the upholstery of banquet seating that goes into bars and other hospitality venues, as well as supplying occasional chairs and recliners for aged care facilities. For many years the team at Pace Furniture designed and manufactured upholstered headboards, supplying furniture retailers. When Warwick and his team noticed how much Kiwi’s love to customise their own headboards and support Kiwi made products, he saw an opportunity to diversify, creating a subsidiary brand specifically for the headboards, giving life to Sunday Headboards, selling direct to the public. “It’s an on-line business aimed at customised headboards that went live about four months ago, with momentum slowly building up. We wanted to make sure we offered quality, customisable headboards that are fun, quirky and the customer actually has choices around colours, designs and fabrics. It is not a one size fits all deal. We give the customer lots of choices so they can get a headboard that is totally and utterly them. “Essentially the customer can choose their design style from the sublimely simple and basic to the fantastical. “Our entire range is all made from quality locally sourced materials and are environmentally friendly as much as possible.
