Trico Group - NC Hire CONTRACTING “To go far, go together” is the approach that three families – the Murrays, the Wallaces and the Bassetts – have taken in pooling their separate South Island equipment hire companies into one: the Trico Group. “What underpins this merger is that we’re stronger together,” Trico Group Sales and Marketing Manager Harland Bassett says. “This merger of the three family companies isn’t something we’ve done on the fly, but directly feeds into our long-term strategy to be behind every great work-site across the South Island. “The advantages are immediate for our customers, with access to a much larger range of equipment, and in so many locations for their projects.” Alpha Equipment, Fulcrum Equipment and NC (North Canterbury) Hire are the three former businesses now combined as Trico Group, linking four separate existing locations in Dunedin, Christchurch, Rangiora and Amberley. Together they have around 30 staff and offer more than 750 pieces of plant, and a similar number of specialist attachments, available for hire. Trico Group is also doing research on other strategic locations it could expand to, to better serve its growing customer base. “The industries and customers we target always have been, and remain, trade customers, particularly contractors and Tier One companies,” Harland says. “With a much greater and consolidated fleet size, we feel well-positioned to supply our core customers, and to grow existing relationships while going after new customers. “Our current main project at a management level is building a team to take us long-term into the future, aligning our marketing efforts for the group, and strategically planning our next steps over the next three-to-five years.” Harland is keen to hear from potential buyers for the “huge range” of near-new machinery that’s being put up for sale as a result of the merger. “We stock the largest range of late-model, low-hour equipment on the island, and we stand behind it in saying its safe, world-class and guaranteed to perform. “We’ve united to provide access to the best equipment in the South Island: hire or buy, we can get you what you need wherever you need it.” Harland says the company is backed by top staff who have the confidence and close support of the management team. “At Trico, we have a fast-moving, outcome-focused culture, and our staff are not only highly skilled but loyal. “Focusing on outcomes for the customer is Number One, and they’ll know that we stand behind them to make the calls to move mountains. “Internal promotion and development is a big thing here, as we’ve demonstrated in the merger.” Trico Group’s support of its clients is as vigorous as its support of its staff, Harland adds. “We support our customers to succeed by delivering the right solution for the job, and it’s our knowledge, speed and maintenance teams that keep your work-sites running at optimum efficiency. “We have the skills and the equipment, and our merger simply takes them to a wider customer base. If you want to go far, go together,” he says. SUPPLIERS OF YANMAR CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT AND PROUD SUPPORTERS OF TRICO GROUPAND NC HIRE World-class experience. Local know-how.
