Geeves Scaffolding Timaru REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Geeves Scaffolding is celebrating its recent success at the South Canterbury Business and Community Excellence Awards. The company won the Excellence in Workplace Safety award at the event held on August 16, and is thrilled with the recognition. It was also a finalist in the Supporting Local award. Branch manager Nathan Smid says the firm entered the awards to celebrate the hard work of its Timaru branch and the wider team. “It’s a chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved and share our story with the community,” Nathan says. “Recognition like this means a lot – it boosts morale, builds credibility, and helps us connect with other great local businesses.” He encourages other businesses to enter. “We believe it’s important for businesses to put themselves out there. The awards process itself is valuable – it encourages you to take stock, refine your strategy, and showcase your strengths.” The award follows last year’s success at the Scaffolding and Rigging Association’s Awards 2024, when the company took top prize for a highly technical scaffolding project enabling copper replacement on the Sacred Heart Basilica domes in Timaru earlier in the year. The company was engaged by the main contractor, Ashburton-based firm Bradford Building, to undertake the work. Geeves first won the commercial section for projects over $200,000 and then took the overall job of the year prize. Geeves has been operating for over 15 years and is now recognised as one of New Zealand’s premier scaffolding providers, having completed more than 300 major projects nationwide. Branches are located the length of the country in Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wellington, Nelson, Timaru, Ashburton and Otago. It is part of NZS Group Holdings Ltd – a privately owned holding company with eight individual operating entities. It is Zealand’s largest provider of scaffolding and height-access solutions. The firm offers a full suite of services that include commercial, residential, industrial, and civil scaffolding, formwork and propping, shrink-wrap and temporary structures for events, and in-house engineering support for complex builds. “Geeves started with a strong focus on safety, client satisfaction, and innovation. That foundation has helped us grow,” Nathan says. Safety is a high priority for the firm, he says. “We’ve built a strong safety culture backed by robust risk-management systems.” This includes regular staff training and inductions, a detailed risk register, and daily site audits to keep everything running smoothly and safely. “We’re dedicated to creating a safe environment for our team, clients, and the public. Our directors and senior managers are hands-on when it comes to auditing our safety performance.” “Our success has come from investing in top talent, cutting-edge equipment, and maintaining open, transparent communication with clients. We’ve built a reputation for reliability and safety – especially in high-risk sectors like oil and gas, rail, dairy, and large-scale commercial construction.” Nathan says the industry is continuing to expand. “We’re seeing strong growth across all sectors, but civil and industrial projects are particularly active right now. There’s definitely room for further expansion, and we’re always exploring new opportunities to support infrastructure development across New Zealand.” Scaffolding & formwork engineering Consulting & advisory Temporary works design Bespoke Solutions Project Management Events Providing expert engineering and design services for all temporary works with a nationwide capability With a dedicated team of highly skilled engineers and specialists, we offer innovative and efficient solutions tailored to meet the unique requirements of each project.
