72 | DEVELOPMENT Alpine Buildings NZ - Attika T T Aimee Wilson New premises to bring efficiency, growth Facilities will include dedicated boardrooms, breakout areas, and a large staffroom with a commercial kitchen for catering. Alpine Buildings NZ and Attika are investing in building a new head office at its Timaru base to support both its agriculture and commercial sectors. The purpose-built, multi-storey building will bring Alpine and Attika’s in-house design, project managers, sales, and administrative teams together under one roof, supporting the expansion of Alpine’s innovative rural shed products and Attika’s large-scale industrial projects. It will also strengthen the combined ability to deliver projects for clients nationwide. Attika general manager Almanzo Boakes says the new head office, located just north of their existing one, would be completed in late 2025-early 2026, and enable both companies to be able to work together more efficiently. “It’s about creating the right environment for collaboration and growth,” he says. The building has been in development for four to five years, and is now under construction. It is designed to support long-term growth, enable resource sharing across both businesses, and house spaces available for sublease. Facilities will include dedicated boardrooms, breakout areas, and a large staffroom with a commercial kitchen for catering. Located next to one of its key suppliers, a steel-painting business, the head office will also feature internal design elements that showcase materials used across Alpine and Attika projects, including cross-laminated timber on the upper level and architectural precast panels. While both companies are proud South Canterbury employers, much of their work is delivered in regional centres nationwide. There is also an office in Gore servicing Southland, a remote Auckland base, and manufacturing facilities in Timaru and Cambridge covering both islands. Importing all its own steel, Alpine Buildings NZ was founded in the 1990s, starting with letterboxes and then moving into kitset farm sheds with bird-proof rafters, and then eventually becoming a market lead in rural pole sheds. While Attika was formally established in 2020, the team had been delivering commercial and industrial projects for years as part of Alpine’s operations. Building on this foundation, Attika now specialises in the project management and design of farm buildings, hangars, workshops, warehouses, and showrooms. For commercial clients, Attika offers a full suite of services, all delivered by its in-house architectural and structural design team. This integrated approach keeps projects aligned from concept to completion, and removes the inefficiencies of managing multiple external providers. Attika’s evolution from a hands-on construction background to a trusted industry leader means it blends practical site knowledge with professional design and project-management expertise. This allows the team to respond quickly when clients make site changes or need alternative solutions mid-project. “We’re one of the few companies in that mid-tier size that do the majority of structure and architectural design in-house, and the benefit of that is the client is able to take advantage of efficiencies of repetition,” says Almanzo. As the company has evolved from shed products to a full design-and-build and project-management service, their team has grown to include not only architectural designers, but also consent specialists. Attika’s motto is ‘smart simplicity’, and the future focus is on refining versatile building designs that work seamlessly across a wide range of industrial applications. By drawing on proven design frameworks, the team can adapt and tailor each build to suit industries from aviation and agriculture to manufacturing, transport, warehousing, retail, and showrooms.
