Founded in 2009, RDR Builders has grown into a Registered Master Builder and licensed building practitioner team servicing Invercargill and wider Southland. The couple run the business and raise their three young children together, with Alex providing full-time office support and Reece leading a crew of six skilled builders, many of whom completed their apprenticeships with the company. Indicative of the firm’s reputation for quality, reliability, and personal service, RDR Builders has won the Regional Supreme House of the Year Award in the $750,000-$1 million category at the 2025 Master Builders Awards. The company also took home a regional gold award and was ranked in the Top 100 nationally for the Invercargill home, praised for its strong design, quality craftsmanship, and seamless flow. “This is our biggest award to date, and we’re incredibly proud,” Alex says. “We’d previously won a silver award about three years ago, but no category win and definitely no supreme. “It’s a real testament to the team effort that goes into such a build, along with Reece’s leadership and the long-standing subcontractor relationships we rely on to deliver this level of quality.” The winning project is a sophisticated, contemporary 209sqm residence on Layard Street, designed by the homeowners themselves – architectural designer Nathan, and Jen Shearing, of Fat Hippo Design Group.
