Banbury Park’s landmark Pavilion officially opened in mid-July, marking a significant milestone for the Christchurch retirement village and creating an impressive new centrepiece for residents and visitors alike. The completion marks a major achievement for developer Qestral Corporation, creating what Managing Director Simon O’Dowd describes as the “heart of the village” after months of anticipation from residents who watched the project take shape. “They’ve been looking forward to this building,” Simon says. “They’ve seen it grow from the ground up and they’re excited to finally have all these amenities right on their doorstep.” Standing proudly at the entrance is a striking 10 metre clock tower, designed to match the scale of the Pavilion while becoming an artwork in its own right. The clock allows visitors to see its inner workings, blending engineering with artistic design in a subtle steampunk style. “It’s something eye-catching and a little unexpected. We’ve made sculpture a feature of all our villages. It’s another way of creating an environment that’s interesting, welcoming and a little different. “This clock tower isn’t just a landmark. It’s a piece of public art that complements the Pavilion and gives Banbury Park something distinctive,” says Simon. The Pavilion itself has been designed around the same philosophy. A dramatic indoor landscape features cherry blossom trees and Japanese inspired decor, creating a welcoming yet sophisticated atmosphere from the moment residents walk inside. “We’ve used greenery throughout because it brings life into the building,” Simon says. “It complements the Japanese influences in the design and creates spaces where people simply enjoy spending time.” The Pavilion is now the social and recreational hub of Banbury Park, bringing together facilities including a restaurant, café, bakery, bar, movie theatre, heated indoor swimming pool, spa, wellness centre, massage room, gymnasium, library and hair salon. The Pavilion also incorporates serviced apartments across both the ground and upper levels. Ranging in size from 60sqm to 110sqm, the apartments offer a choice of service packages designed to cater to a range of needs. Spacious and thoughtfully designed for comfortable, accessible living, each apartment includes either a private balcony or outdoor patio, with lift access available to the upper level. All serviced apartments feature a full kitchen, ensuite bathroom, and private laundry with a dryer, providing residents with the comfort and independence of home while enjoying the convenience of village services. Located in Halswell, Banbury Park has been developed as a lifestyle village offering a mix of independent homes alongside rest home, hospital and specialised dementia care. Qestral says the Pavilion strengthens that vision by creating a central gathering place that encourages residents to remain active, connected and engaged. Simon says the project reflects the same design philosophy that earned Qestral national recognition for its Burlington Village Pavilion, while giving Banbury Park its own distinctive identity. He also credits the contractors and tradespeople who have worked on the development, saying the scale and quality of the build has been a genuine team effort.
