Unlike most clubs which have a central governance structure for all activities happening within its bounds, NSRC chose to devolve away from one very large committee, with representatives from all their spor ting adjuncts, to a smaller Club Committee. The Committee of President, Treasurer and Secretary, together with another five elected members, is a massive change from the sometimes 15-plus committee membership. A par t time Club Manager role was instigated approx two years ago to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Club, therefore enabling the Club committee to focus more on governance. The Club Manager attends the meetings to present her monthly repor t also. Mark Murray (Committee Member) says the new-look model is working very well. Within the Club are seven spor ting adjunct clubs each with their own committee who determine a set of rules and practices within their code. All their members must also be a member of the NSRC, which entitles them to an NSRC membership card, enabling entrance to the bar, use of other facilities and of course some member priviliges. The adjunct clubs play a major role within the club and are competitive and have achieved some outstanding results regionally and nationally. Tennis: Mens Interclub champions 2020/21 Golf: Ladies Sunday Pennants team Nor thern Region winners 2021 Outdoor Bowls: Members have in recent years won both the Nor thland Men’s and Women’s First Year Singles, and also the Nor thland Men’s Junior Pairs. President John Wilde selected to play in Nor thland Junior Bowls rep team in 2020 against Auckland. Football: Nor thland Community Divison One Champions 2019. Currently two senior teams, seven junior/youth teams and for ty 5th-8th grade members who play in town each week. Fishing Club: Celebrated 25 years in October 2020 from humble beginnings with a handful of members star ting it up in someone’s garage to now having their own shed at the club with 60 members. Fifteen to twenty members represent NSRC each year in the Clubs NZ Fishing tournament. Pool: Three competitions are played internally each week, with home and away competitions against other clubs held monthly basis. Badminton: Held three times a week Along with a number of spor ting codes the club is richly resourced in terms of options for members to get involved in, including a weekly quilting group, coastal fitness gym, yoga, market days, and fundraising and school events held throughout the year. The official opening of the spor ts ground took place in 1982, with the Coastal Fitness Gymnasium and Youth Skatepark the two most recent facilities to be located on the Spor ts Complex grounds. At the end of the financial year in March the club had a membership of 823. “As an incorporated Society any money we make goes back into upgrading the building. A constant upgrade is a strong focus of our strategic plan,” explains Mark. A new and very positive acquisition to club life is our restaurant contractor, Ash Tadman. Ash has been involved in the hospitality industry for some years and he is generating a new energy and positivity in the club. Ngunguru Spor ts & Recreation Club is open 7 days a week and always welcomes new members. As a club affiliated to Clubs NZ, it also welcomes visitors who are members of a char tered club. Ngunguru Sports & Recreation Club is part of a vibrant community on the Tutukaka Coast, 32km north-east of Whangarei.
