Safer Plates & Free Tool Engraving Neighbourhood Support Waitakere have been hosting community pop up Safer Plates and Free Tool Engraving Events since 2011 in outdoor and undercover car parks across West Auckland, working alongside Community Policing teams and Community Patrols. We replace the standard screws on car number plates with safer tamper proof stainless steel screws. In 2021 there were 986 number plates stolen, which were used for crime related purposes across the Waitemata district. Stolen number plates may be used in incidents of petrol drive offs, burglary, theft, drug related crime and to drive through toll roads etc. With support from our Henderson Massey Local Board, we are able to offer this service free to Super Gold Card holders and anyone who has had their plates stolen, the small fee of $4 applies to the wider community. Combined at these events is a Free Tool Engraving Service for DIY’ers and Tradies for their tools. Drivers license details are etched onto the tools, this enables quick identification if stolen goods are recovered.
