Neighbourhood Support Waitakere & North Shore 2023/24

Nga mihi nui koutou katoa & Talofa lava, my name is Michael Alofa. I’m a Specialist Advisor for Auckland Council. For 16 years I’ve held the council and police relationship portfolios with NSW-Neighbourhood Support Waitakere. I enjoy my role, because it allows me to collaborate with agencies, and support community groups, like NSW. My role acts as a conduit on operational matters between local boards and NSW. I want to acknowledge the NSW committee; the chair, Michael Chan-Foung; vice chair, Sila Faga Siaki and the committee members. To build effective and sustainable teams, you need good governance through effective leadership. Recently, I received news of Louise Grevel’s departure after 13 years. I want to pay a special acknowledgement to Louise and Sharon Peters whom I’ve known since the establishment of NSW in 2007. These amazing ladies have helped in the strengthening of NSW, delivering, and supporting so many wonderful community initiatives. Louise and Sharon play an integral part in the safer plates & engraving tools initiative in partnership with the police. They have supported the Waitākere Ranges Safety Campaign, street BBQ’s, HTC-Henderson Town Centre Plan, and many more. I want to thank them both for their commitment and dedication and wish Louise the very best in her new role. I want to welcome Rebecca Smith into the NSW family in her new coordination role across North Shore and the West. NSW brings people and neighbourhoods together to create safe, resilient and connected communities. The best security you can have to protect your community is joining Neighbourhood Support. By joining you get to know your neighbours, Message from Michael Alofa Auckland Council Specialist Advisor 16 Page
