West Auckland turned into a sea of colour as thousands of people came together to celebrate the Holi festival. The much-loved festival, hosted by Waitakere Indian Association, returned after a three-year absence due to Covid-19. The celebration was a great way to showcase Indian culture and bring the community together in a fun and inclusive way. Supported by more than 20 Indian and local community organisations, the event showcased the diversity within the Indian communities and was a platform for different communities to come together, celebrate and learn about diverse traditions. Festival-goers danced along to the DJ’s music and enjoyed a wide range of food. Neighbourhood Support Waitakere attended and were the recipients of a community award. We look forward to the next Indian Festival 'Diwali' on Sunday 29 October at the Trusts Arena and next year's Holi Mela, as does the rest of West Auckland.
