Kelly Deeks A gricultural refrigeration specialist Dairycool has given its dedication and support to the wider Canterbury area since 2004, building a reputation as a hands-on business delivering unparalleled service, and growing into a market leader in dairy farm refrigeration. Operating a dedicated 24/7 breakdown service, an extensive parts inventory, a wide range of agri- refrigeration products, and proactive maintenance programmes for all of its clients, Dairycool ensures its clients’ refrigeration assets maintain maximum performance, and minimise running costs and downtime. “We have a highly experienced and qualified team who install, maintain, and repair all aspects of dairy shed refrigeration, including plumbing and electrical connections for full turn-key projects, maximising efficiency at a highly competitive price,” says Dairycool general manager Mike Redwood. With a team of 6 technicians operat- ing between North Otago and North Canterbury, Dairycool can get to any fault on farm extremely quickly, to reduce the risk of milk loss or tempera- ture grades. In 2019 Dairycool was purchased by a new shareholder group which includes Mike, sales manager Lee Gilbert, and Matt Cammock, who took on the operations manager role following the amalgamation of his business, Southfreeze Dairy, with Dairycool. Southfreeze Dairy brought its own loyal client base predominately in North Canter- bury. “As an owner/operator, with a young family it was challenging at times to provide a 24hr on call service to my clients,” Matt says.“Dairy farming is a 24/7 business, and it’s critical to provide the highest level of support to clients’ on farm milk cooling. When the opportunity came up to join the team at Dairycool, it made sense for our two com- panies to merge.” With the merging of Southfreeze Dairy, Dairycool is also the licenced agent for the Coolsense range of snap chilling systems. Dairycool already offers the traditional silo direct expansion (DX) refrigeration units, as well as ‘plug and play’ snap chillers and icebanks to pre-chill milk to 7°c to 10°c at silo entry, with a DX unit maintaining sub 6°c.“The Coolsense systems com- plement Dairycool’s existing range as it is a quite different solution,” Mike says. “The VariCOOL unit will pre-chill your milk as well as chilling multiple milk silos, eliminating the need for multiple refrig- eration units on farm.” Manufactured in Hamilton using leading technol- ogy, Coolsense’s range of products are great op- tions for farmers looking for high end performance from a single refrigeration system. The unit is a versatile glycol-based system which can adjust its outgoing kilo-wattage through the use of variable speed compressor technology, allowing the system to be a powerful snap chiller and still have the ability to reduce its capacity to meet changing demand when chilling one or multiple milk silos. The Dairycool team provides a free on-site cool- ing and energy savings assessment and design service, looking at the current situation and future requirements, considering primary cooling water temperatures, power usage and availability, milk flows, and seasonal variation, then determining the best course of action to improve milk cooling capacity.
