Kelly Deeks B ay of Plenty based manufacturer, supplier, and importer of farming effluent, industrial and sewerage handling equipment,Numedic, has been a key member of NZMPTA for many years and this year will celebrate a big birthday. Numedic has evolved over 50 years from supply- ing and servicing drench systems for dairy farms to becoming a complete effluent systems provider, from pumps and reticulation to irrigation systems for farming, horticulture, industrial and food pro- duction, municipal servicing, and with significant exports to more than 15 countries. Numedic’s product line includes a wide range of vertical and horizontal pumps for ponds, sumps, and tanks, travelling and stationary irrigators, stir- rers and mixers, hydrants, municipal and residential pumping solutions, pipe, hose and all the fittings required. Numedic also provides farm dairy effluent (FDE) accredited system design for effluent systems for New Zealand customers, and designs versatile effluent systems for customers around the world, helping to navigate the many different options available on the market. Almost a year into Numedic ownership, Andrew and Marina Millar identified a few clear trends that help them in shaping Numedic’s future direction. “One is getting the basics right, making sure we are always an easy business to deal with,” Andrew says. “Everyone talks about customer service but sometimes businesses can lose sight of what’s important to the customer. Like getting friendly and accurate advice, a product or service being avail- able when you want it, and at a fair price. Being ‘user friendly’ and making the process as quick and easy as possible.” Numedic also focuses on providing value for money not just in terms of initial capital outlay, but taking into account reliability, operating cost, maintenance cost as well as lifetime and residual or resale value. “You only really learn the true cost of an asset or service at the end of its use. The real test is when Northland growing market • from page 112 farming is changing, and Gibson Construction has three cow dairy sheds underway in Northland, where Blair says industry is currently progressive and growing. “We went to do one shed up there and found a bit of a market,” he says. “They are moving forward, they are wanting industry up there, wanting to grow the place and grow the employment opportunities.” Meanwhile at Gibson Construction, a change to the business model will make this year the company’s most profitable for 10 years. Instead of employing about 50 staff, the company now employs about nine leading hands and contracts in the rest. While the change was made reluctantly at “We went to do one shed up there (Northland) and found a bit of a market.” you ask yourself ‘would I choose that again; would I use these guys again?’ Reputation is everything, it’s the lowest cost advertising.” Numedic believes farmers are incredibly adapt- able and resilient, and the businesses servicing them should be too. Marina says farmers are smart, hard-working people who care for their animals and their land. “They wear many different hats during the day and their business is incredibly complex,” she says. “We are committed to providing no-nonsense advice, best fit products, and unmatched service. We aim to provide products that perform and make our customers’ lives easier, leading to more profitable production.” Numedic provides a range of options that will solve a need or problem. And when the company puts its stamp behind a product its sells, it is fully committed to it working well and performing to expectations, both now and into the future. Numedic products and solutions have been trusted and relied on by generations of farmers both in New Zealand and worldwide.
