These link to the five focus areas we measure farm performance and improvement by.” These focus areas are Milk, Animals, Environment, Co-operative and Prosperity and People and Community. The Co-operative Difference framework has been created to enable real, meaningful and achievable gains to occur, through a system of performance data recording that underpins how each farm’s progress toward achievement in all 5 focus areas is measured. “We have teams of advisors on the ground, who engage with farmers across each of the 5 focus areas with the aim that they achieve above minimal standards and receive an additional payment to recognise how these improvements help to increase the value of milk to the Co-operative.” The 10c recognition payment is broken down into a 7c/kg non-milk payment, for those farms who have made gain in farm performance standards apart from milk, and once this has been achieved, a further 3c/kg for milk quality excellence. “For the season we have just come out of, for example, under Co-operative and Prosperity, farms needed to have submitted their Farm Dairy Records before the end of June. To achieve the Animal component they needed to have an Animal Wellbing plan signed off by a vet and for People and Community, they need to complete the DairyNZ workplace 360° assessment and achieve 100% at the foundation level. It’s been very successful to date with many farms embracing the support and opportunities to improve.” The support provided to Dairy Holdings farms from Ravensdown, Fonterra and the Dairy Holdings corporate office team enabled all their Fonterra supplying farms to achieve the foundation level for the 2022/23 season. This was in addition to all FEP audited dairy farms achieving 100% A grades. A very commendable result. Zoheed Ali at Millvale Dairy Farm.
