NZ Dairy Autumn 2023

| 47 nzdairy Making his voice heard was the whole reason that Jason joined Federated Farmers. DAIRY PEOPLE » Jason & Sandy Herrick • from page 46 Jason’s appointment to the Federated Farmers Dairy Executive, was on the back of standing for a place on the National Board elections. “I didn’t quite make it on the Board because no one in the organisation knew who I was. But Richard McIntyre, who was the new Dairy Chair, asked me to join the Dairy Executive. It was awesome that Richard approached me and asked me to join it, because it gives me a little bit more time to gain that experience at a higher level, before going onto the board. I have aspirations to sit on the board and offer that strong solid voice for farming. That is my ultimate goal. So, the Dairy Executive is a stepping stone, providing me good with insights to the processes and what goes on in Wellington.” In his Dairy Executive role, Jason hopes to be an influencer. That person who influences good solid, positive outcomes so that farmers can carry on farming into the future without a stream of unworkable policies coming out of Wellington. While the role will require a little extra time away from home and the farm, and perhaps a little bit of rejigging things on farm, Jason says he is fortunate to have a very good team on farm, along with the support of his wife Sandy. “Sandy has always been very supportive of what I am trying to achieve. I take a great deal of pride in helping other people. When I set out on my mental health journey I started out with the narrative, ‘if I can help one person then I am doing something good’. Now it has extended to ‘if I can help multiple people, I am positively influencing others. ’ What I’ve always wanted was clarity and fairness within our dairy sector.” For pricing & contracts: 03 201 6246 or 027 249 9317 PROUD SUPPLIERS OF GRAIN TO JASON & SANDY HERRICK GRAIN, BLENDS AND CUSTOM STOCKFEED www.wilkinsfarming.co.nz FOR MORE INFO » Livestock cartage » Bulk cartage » Fertiliser spreading » General transport » Rubbish removal Operating from branches in Te Anau, Mossburn, Lumsden, Queenstown, Cromwell and Invercargill, we have the resources to assist our customers with: Queenstown 121 Gorge Road Ph: 03 441 3620 Invercargill 3 Victoria Street Ph: 03 214 4959 Cromwell 147 McNulty Road Ph: 03 445 0824 Lumsden 4 Pluto Street Ph: 03 249 7050 Mossburn 16 Devon Street Ph: 03 248 4030 Te Anau 52 Caswell Road Ph: 03 249 7050
