While the engine room of whole goat milk production is on the farm, NZ Dairy Goats then supply New Image Group’s plant in Paerata, near Pukekohe, with the milk from which specialised and specific goat milk powder, suitable for blending into infants formulas, is produced. “Because New Image Group is a shareholder in NZ Dairy Goats, I am in control of all parts of the journey from on-farm goat milk production to supplying specific export markets with large-batch blended milk powder for production facilities in those destinations to then use to create a range of nutritional products,” says Phil. It’s a tough market to crack given its high tariff levels on imported food products, however by supplying whole milk powder as an ingredient and bulk infant formula for canning within the country, opportunities have opened up.
