Otago based CCMP offers nearly five decades of experience and has built its reputation on creating bespoke solutions that stand the test of time. “We’ve been working in this area for nearly 50 years, and our point of difference is designing and engineering products specifically to meet our clients’ needs,” says managing director Hamish Keith. “Poor cow flow, inadequate handling facilities or older style platforms can really benefit from alterations and this is where experience is key. A few targeted changes can make a big difference including better handling, optimal operator safety, increased cow comfort, improved cow flow and overall efficiency. With decades of experience in cow behaviour, flow and handling, we utilize CAD design software to provide optimal integrated solutions. A good example is a current project. At present CCMP is replacing a rotary platform it originally constructed over 30 years ago. “Our equipment is made to last,” explains Hamish, “and that means we often have lifelong relationships with our clients because they trust CCMP and know our advice and solutions stand the test of time. In this case we went through the feasibility of building a new shed but, due to the location, we decided to replace the rotary using existing infrastructure, so the overall project will be much more cost effective. We will custom build the rotary to suit this existing building but with the latest technology and design for cows. It will be done in the off season, an eight week build time.” Founded in the early 1960s, the business started as a small workshop manufacturing chain link wire mesh. Hamish’s father Bill purchased the company in the mid-1970s, and today it remains a family-owned enterprise. What began as a modest operation producing farm gates has evolved into a comprehensive rural engineering solutions provider, with a primary focus on the dairy industry. Hamish says that CCMP prides itself on understanding both engineering and animal behaviour, ensuring that every solution is tailored to specific farm requirements. “Each farm is quite different,” says Hamish. “Because we do all the design and engineering ourselves, we can find the best solution to suit.” The company’s expertise includes integrated platform solutions, rural engineering and complex dairy shed designs. It offers everything from stock feeders and dog kennels to sophisticated milking systems, all manufactured in its Balclutha workshop. Importantly CCMP doesn’t just build but also provides ongoing maintenance and support. As authorised agents for DeLaval milking systems, Grundfos pumps and Reid & Harrison effluent equipment, the company offers round-the-clock technical support. Its technicians are highly qualified including registered milking machine testers who provide comprehensive diagnostics using innovative tools like the DeLaval VPR200 and time-lapse camera analysis. “Time-lapse cameras allow us to assess cow behaviour and how equipment preforms, providing an in-depth assessment and ability to monitor every milking, cutting out the guess work and fast tracking finding the right solution,” explains Hamish. Innovation remains at the heart of CCMP’s philosophy. Developing a unique self-levelling roller over 30 years ago, the company continues to modernise its designs. “We can take a project from a grass paddock to a finished dairy shed,” says Hamish. “It’s about helping farmers to run their farms smarter.” CCMP is a proud member of the...
